Windstar Gives Back

Unique to fund raisers, Windstar Gives Back is not a single event but rather a four-day weekend of events that is solely amongst the Windstar Membership and select corporate sponsors. Beginning with a fishing tournament, the Sponsor Appreciation reception, and continuing into the weekend, participants enjoyed both golf and tennis events including a golf Pro-Am and a tennis Pro-Am, a cookout, live and silent auction, and a cocktail reception and awards ceremony.

Of significant importance to the program’s success are its sponsors. In keeping with our mission of “helping kids at risk”, Windstar members and friends have contributed just under $500,000 to directly benefit children in our Bayshore area neighborhood. Our Windstar on Naples Bay “Gives Back” event helps thousands of less fortunate children.

Windstar’s strategic plan asks each of us to participate in Windstar on Naples Bay and our surrounding community and, over the last 8 years, we have raised over $500,000 through our Windstar Gives Back program for local charities that help local kids at risk.

A new feature of this year’s program is the establishment of the Windstar Club Charitable Foundation, Inc., for which we are applying for 501(c)(3) status under the Internal Revenue Code.  Donations should be made payable to the Foundation and the Foundation will issue you a receipt for tax purposes.  You may earmark your gift for a specific charity or charities or make your gift unrestricted.  The Foundation board will allocate unrestricted gifts among the 5 grant applicants.

Windstar on Naples Bay sponsors fifth home for Habitat for Humanity

Windstar on Naples Bay has once again undertaken an initiative to assist local families in need. For the fifth year, Windstar on Naples Bay is partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Collier County through the Community Contribution Tax Credit Program (CCTCP).  The CCTCP is a state funded incentive to encourage businesses that collect and remit state sales tax to partner with those who provide affordable housing.

This year Windstar has helped the Reyes family build a home for her and her young son, giving him a safe place to play and grow. “If it had not been for you all, we would not have a home.” writes Yuridia Ramirez Reyes in the heartfelt thank you letter to Windstar members. In partnering with Habitat for Humanity, Windstar makes a commitment to cover the hard costs of building a Habitat home which makes the club eligible for a rebate in sales tax previously paid to the state. In addition, for each home built, a minimum of 200 hours of volunteer labor is provided by Windstar members. Working together with Habitat, Windstar has provided homes for five legal, hard-working families in our community while contributing more than 2,400 hours of volunteer labor!

Habitat for Humanity of Collier County, which marked its 35thanniversary in 2013, is one of the largest and most successful affiliates of the international organization. Through Habitat’s unique partnership approach, families receive not a temporary hand-outbut rather a life-changing hand-up. Each Habitat family helps build their home and then purchases it from Habitat for Humanity with a no interest loan.
