GCM News.jpg

This week a severe cold front is forecast to move through starting today. They are predicting low temperatures of 47, 40, and 54 with highs in the mid 60’s. As you all know, cold weather negatively impacts warm season turf grass.

Last week we planted the retainage area between holes 2 and 3, left of 9 tee, and added some plants behind 9 green.

We pruned the large ficus right rough #8, limbed up the large Ficus behind 10 green, and the large Ficus left of 13 tee.

The greens are stimping 10.75.

Please remember to repair ball marks, fill divots, and abide by the green and red traffic poles.

Enjoy your golf course.

Thank you,
Chuck Eberle
Golf Course Superintendent

American Coot
bow1-20-20.jpg
The American Coot is easily distinguished by its overall dark slate-gray plumage, which is blacker on the head and neck, and its white bill. Coots pump their small heads back and forth like a chicken when walking or swimming. Coots can be seen running on water with wings flapping to take off flying. During breeding season, pairs will display in front of each other on the water in courtship, and males will chase females around our Windstar ponds. Often they can be seen feeding on aquatic plants, insects, and small fish in groups of four to twelve. American Coots are often mistaken for small ducks or their close relatives the Common Gallinule and the Purple Gallinule, both of which have distinctive red bills with yellow tips. The Coots in the photo above were observed in the pond running alongside the 13th and 14th holes. They can also be seen in good numbers at Sugden Community Park and Eagle Lakes Community Park.
